Iwona Zajac Gdansk, Poland and London, UK Artist-in-Residence |
Iwona Zając's art practice explores issues of feminism and social concern. Formally trained in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, she began creating murals in 2000. One of her most well-known projects involved a series of stencils on the outer walls of the Shipyards in Gdansk, where the Solidarity movement started. The mural contained stories about the life and work of the shipyard workers. This year, Zając received a grant from the Polish Ministry of Culture for a project about Polish immigration to London, where she lives part-time. Her work has been shown extensively in Poland, including at the WYSPA Institute of Art and at the Warsaw Artists Action Association. This is her first exhibition in the United States. |
Sat, Dec 1, 1pm All events are free and open to the public. This residency is made possible through assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Nimoy Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council. Additional support is provided by The Cleveland Foundation and The George Gund Foundation. |
