Christopher Lynn
SPACES' new executive director

After a four-month national search with over 40 candidates, we are excited to announce that Christopher Lynn will lead SPACES into its fourth decade.

Lynn most recently directed the Gallery of Contemporary Art at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, where he guided its curatorial transformation and strengthened its funding base. He received his BFA in painting and drawing from Brigham Young University. He then earned his MFA in painting and drawing from The Ohio State University. Lynn’s move to Cleveland marks his return to the Midwest and Ohio. Prior to his gallery directorship in Colorado, Lynn served as assistant curator at the Richard E. Peeler Art Center, DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. With a history of curating exhibitions and programs that challenge aesthetic and conceptual boundaries, Lynn possesses edginess and expertise in alternative arts in both traditional and new media. As executive director, Lynn promises to bring a fresh approach to the execution of SPACES’ mission, while maintaining the ideals that have made the organization one of the longest-lived alternative arts organizations in the country.

Lynn's wife, Maria Samuelson, a performing artist, and their son, Moses, will join him on his journey to Cleveland. Lynn will take the helm in late-August 2008. SPACES Interim Executive Director Mikelann Ward Rensel will work with the board and staff until Lynn’s arrival.
