Artist-in-Residence SPACES World Artists Program>>		Excerpt from the artists’ statement:
Born in Cuba, SPACES World Artist Juan-Sí González currently lives and works in Yellow Springs, Ohio, with his wife and collaborator Paloma Dallas. In this project created during his residency at SPACES, González invites Dallas, born and raised in Ohio with Spanish as her second language, to further their investigation of the “boundaries that both join and divide individuals”. González and Dallas have collaborated on past projects exhibited at Hardcore Contemporary Art Space, Miami, Florida; Herndon Gallery at Antioch College, Yellow Springs, Ohio; Open Books Gallery, Yellow Springs, Ohio; and the 5th Toronto International Film Festival, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.		Language is both the vehicle one uses for communicating and the filter one has for understanding. It cannot be disentangled from the cultural and historical baggage that comes with it. Recognizing that along the borderlands of language is where the binomial of memory-identity is most strongly triggered, we explore the consequences of physical displacement—the migration of language—and the complex, and painful, process of insertion and adaptation in a new social context. Café Bellas Artes: A place where members of the Latino community can get together each month to discuss culture, art, music, poetry, literature and more in Spanish. Juan-Sí and Paloma invite you to: SHARE YOUR STORY WITH CLEVELAND for another upcoming project! The artists Paloma Dallas and Juan-Sí González are currently working on a new interactive collaborative installation project at Cleveland’s City Hall. This additional project is an extension of the current installation Migración of Language currently on view at SPACES. Simply click on the link below to access the questionaire that will become part of this amazing installation. Share your story. You are invited to view the installation throughout September at City Hall. Entrance is free, but requires a photo ID.

How you can contribute to this project: As part of one of the installation pieces, we are trying to show the different reasons and circumstances that have led people from around the world to immigrate, or simply move from one place to another.
