Connections: Ohio Artists Abroad

September 13 - October 25

SPACES

Travel around the world through the eyes of artists, as SPACES Presents Connections: Ohio Artists Abroad, on view from September 13 - Oct 25, 2002. Curated by SPACES' director Susan Channing, this exhibition is about the change that artists undergo when they interact with a foreign culture, making art that reflects experiences unique to their location. Featuring work by 13 artists who have participated in international projects or residencies supported by the Ohio Arts Council, this major exhibition includes photography, video, printmaking, artists' books, tapestry, metalsmithing, collage and installation art. Connections: Ohio Artists Abroad is presented in conjunction with the Riffe Gallery (Columbus, OH) and will travel to the Weston Art Gallery (Cincinnati, OH). Grab your passport and join us at SPACES for the opening reception on Friday, September 13, from 5-9pm. Both the exhibition and reception are FREE and open to the public.

Participating artists include: Mary Jo Bole (Columbus), Kathleen Browne (Ravenna), Malcolm Cochran (Columbus), Todd DeVriese (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Claudia Esslinger (Gambier), Susan Ewing (Oxford), Ann Hamilton (Columbus), Masumi Hayashi (Cleveland), Stephen Litchfield (Ravenna), Kelly Novak (Cleveland), Chris Pekoc (Cleveland), Aminah Robinson (Columbus) and Wendy Collin Sorin (Cleveland Heights). Each artist spent five to eight weeks in the Czech Republic, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Italy or India.
