SPACES presents two installation exhibitions by artists Aaron Lazar and the collaborative team of Andy Marko and Robert Dyehouse as a part of the SPACE Lab program. SPACE Lab focuses on smaller, experimental and timely projects. Applications are reviewed year round by a committee of younger artists. From September 11th-October 1st, Aaron Lazar (youngstown, OH) exhibits Heaven, an exploration of the relationships between the artificial and the natural. For this work he constructs and affixes a glowing blue screen onto the room's ceiling, simulating a synthetically blue open sky overhead. Andy Marko and Richard Dyehouse (Cincinnati, OH) create a moving installation of low-tech gagetry in Never the Same , on view from October 5th-22nd. This interactive work features a rolling TV monitor and video-recording system which plays back images of visitors who have entered the room, creating an ever-developing, random sequence which really is "never the same". Gallery Hours for SPACES are Saturday 11-5 pm, Sunday 1-5 pm. and Tuesday through Friday 11-5:30pm. SPACES has given over 5500 artists in the visual and performing arts an arena in which to present challenging new ideas. SPACES is located at 2220 Superior viaduct on the West side of the Flats. Superior Viaduct runs parallel to the detroit Superior Bridge at the intersection of West 25th Street. |
