Rian was born in Galway, Ireland, in 1968. She exhibited in the 2007 Florence Biennale, Italy and Edge va a Mexico at the Centro Cultural, Casa Borda, Taxco, Mexico. She received her MFA from the University of New Orleans in 1997, and her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Ulster at Belfast in 1991. She is an assistant professor at University of Colorado at Denver.
