Coming to IFC, a Foodie With a Taste for the Surreal (NYTimes.com)
"In her surreal excursions on Food Party (whose earliest episodes appear online at foodparty.tv), Ms. Tran can be seen enjoying a romantic dinner with a mustachioed French baguette that smokes cigarettes and wears sunglasses; cooking with kitchenware delivered to her by toy helicopters; and breaking into song as she picks doughnuts from a doughnut tree."

"As an undergraduate at the Cleveland Institute of Art, Ms. Tran majored in glasswork. But she specialized in what she called weird psychedelic artificial whatever landscape installations, where hand-blown glass fruits and giant Cheetos grew from the ground, with the scent of car air freshener and the sound of chirping birds wafting throughout."

Bringing back the WPA (Work Projects Administration) in 2010! " Kickstarter
"About this project We are bringing back the WPA (Work Projects Administration), because the government hasn't. We will open two WPA offices - one in a rural hamlet, and one in an urban center - for recovery by the communities themselves!

We have secured offices in the rural hamlet of Wassaic, New York, and the urban center of Jamaica, Queens, and are finalists for a commission to open a third office in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In short, we will spearhead small-scale community-driven projects, putting people to work and completing the public works people want to see in the communities in which they live. Since the government hasnt brought the WPA back, we will!"

Senate panel offers hope for arts agency (http://ajc.com)

"The Senate Appropriations Committee restored the $890,735 that the governor had recommended for GCA, but the House had cut out. The Senate version of the budget keeps the agency going, but with about $1.6 million less in state backing than it has in fiscal year 2010."

Arts District: Cuyahoga Arts and Culture Gets Younger (Cleveland Scene)

"There's been a minor changing of the guard at Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. By replacing someone who's had a long career with a person at the beginning of his, it puts a younger face on the arts funder's board of trustees. David Bergholz, who retired after 15 years as executive director at the Gund Foundation, has stepped down, and the organization has appointed Matthew Charboneau in his place."

MOCA Cleveland asks architect Farshid Moussavi to provide final designs for new building at Uptown (http://cleveland.com)

"On Monday, the MOCA board voted unanimously to ask architects from the Cleveland firm of Westlake Reed Leskosky to produce final construction drawings for a detailed concept created by Farshid Moussavi of Foreign Office Architects in London, England. The move toward construction documents is a key step toward a possible groundbreaking in November." Big time stuff!
