Arts Prize Goes Live
A city-wide celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Cleveland Arts Prize continues with contemporary commissioned work:
3 Performances; 3 Places; 10 Artists and Everything is free
Robin VanLear (CAP 2001 Visual Arts)
Brent Kee Young (CAP 1987 Visual Arts)
Paul Cox (Composer)
Story Rhinehart Cadiz (Choreographer)
For one week, SPACES' will play host to a ghostly environment, punctuated with a performance and original music. Inspired by Robin VanLear's research into the Rwanda genocide, the atrocities against women in the Congo and the siege of Sarajevo, this exhibition and performance recalls loss and brutality while looking for healing and hope. A grove of trees fashioned by VanLear from Lake Erie driftwood and rebar will house a delicate and radiant flamework boroscilica glass vessel from Brent Kee Young's Matrix Series. The public is invited to participate in the project by creating ""spirit bundles"" at SPACES that ""may transmit the energies of those individuals who have been stolen from this life enabling their positive energy to spread through our environment in hopes of a better future." The following week, these bundles will be placed in the trees during a ritual-like performance by Story Rhinehart with original accompaniment composed and played by Paul Cox.
