Drawing Lines: Legal Lessons for Creative Collaborators

Drawing Lines: Legal Lessons for Creative Collaborators

Join Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts at SPACES for "Drawing Lines: Legal Lessons for Creative Collaborators"

Speakers:

  • Todd Masuda, Schneider, Smeltz, Ranney & LaFond P.L.L.
  • Chris Klasa, Thompson Hine LLP

Artists, like all enthusiastic collaborators, begin their projects focused on their visions of ultimate success. Yet artistic collaborations are susceptible to the same disputes and misunderstandings that commonly arise between business associates. Two lawyers familiar with the creative process and business disputes present an overview of the basic contractual and copyright issues for creative collaborators, including:

  • Who owns the work?
  • Who owns my contribution?
  • Who's getting paid?
  • Who pays expenses?
  • Who's the decider?
  • I can use the final work, can't I?

This seminar is recommended for performance, electronic media, and music artists who collaborate with other artists, publishers, or presenters.

Light refreshments will be provided.

To secure your place at the presentation, RSVP to: Jessica Paine at (216) 696-3525.

Note: This event was rescheduled from December 8, 2010 due to weather.
