Off the Record / For the Record / Broken Record [set the Record straight] (Machine Project Event)

Experimental percussionist Corey Fogel, Composer/synthesist Ezra Buchla, and artist Liz Glynn are seeking participants for an all-night improvisational narrative seeking to uncover the secret history of Cleveland. Come to SPACES on the night of February 19th, share a story or an object, and/or make some noise. Your contribution can range from poetic to objective, epic narrative to pithy maxims, from personal truths to outright lies. Stories can be urban legends, personal tales of woe and triumph. Or, just bring an object that embodies all of that, and we'll try to make sense of it through sculptural assemblage and appropriation. Manhole covers? A strand of ribbon? 1000 lbs of salt? Sewing machines? Letters? Newspaper?

Tell us what we need to hear in order to create this story of Cleveland's closet:

  • Off the Record: Anonymous tales, secrets—that which needs to be heard, but separated from its source
  • For the Record: Shout it out loud! Exclamation, reenactment, reprise
  • Broken Record: Give us your cliches—everything you're sick and tired of hearing
  • Set the Record Straight: Use your imagination to change the course of history, however you pleaseth.

All raw vocal and audio contributions will be processed through a series of computer loops / granulators / decays, and will accompany the visual artifact created from all of your objects. This installation will then remain in SPACES Gallery for the 2-month duration of the Camp Cleveland / Machine Project Residency.

You are encouraged to email stories in advance to lizglynn@machineproject.com. If you wish to remain anonymous, please note that clearly in your email. All contributions will be included in the final piece. Fragments of your recorded material will be included on a hard vinyl album Machine Project is producing during this residency. (literarily "for the record")

RSVP suggested, but not required. Join us! (there will be food)
