Shannon Okey was born in 1975 and currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio, where she is a knit designer and writer. She owns and works at Knitgrrl Studio in Lakewood, and she has written several books about knitting, sewing, and other crafts including her Knitgrrl series. She runs Cooperative Press, which publishes things both digitally and in print. She has been a columnist for knit.1 magazine and editor in chief for the magazine Yarn Forward, and she currently writes the expert knitting column in the magazine Knitting Today! Additionally, she founded both Stitch Cleveland (which she co-owns) and Stitch Cooperative.
