at CAPITOL THEATRE
Join SPACES as we venture to the CAPITOL THEATRE with the award-winning Andrew Alden Ensemble. Rejuvenating silent film classics with live music, the Andrew Alden Ensemble brings an exciting new score to the infamous silent film, Battleship Potemkin.
With its diverse selection of percussion, guitars, strings, piano, sound effects, samplers and synthesizers, the Andrew Alden Ensemble pays homage to this film with classical chamber music tinged with a distinct rock edge. The film will be played silent, with subtitles, while the textural score transforms the picture with refreshing new sounds.
About Battleship Potemkin.
Director Sergei Eisenstein was commissioned by the Soviet government to make this film as a commemoration of the 1905 uprising. Eisenstein's narrative focuses mainly on the crew of the battleship Potemkin, who, fed up with the extreme cruelties of their officers and their maggot-ridden rations, staged a violent mutiny.
