CONCERT: No Exit New Music Ensemble with Carlton Vickers

A program of avant-garde music

CONCERT: No Exit New Music Ensemble with Carlton Vickers

In their fourth season, No Exit welcomes special guest Carlton Vickers who will be performing two pieces by Brian Ferneyhough—one of them a North American premiere—for solo flute. Artistic director Timothy Beyer remarked, "Ferneyhough, who is of course a preeminent figure in the New Complexity movement [in music], has written some of the most challenging music out there in regards to how difficult it can be for a performer to both learn and play. Carlton however, does a truly masterful job. He is a rather special sort of musician and we are just thrilled to have him in town doing these concerts with us [No Exit]. I should also add that Ferneyhough's music is most definitely a unique experience for the listener."

In addition to Brian Ferneyhough's Cassandra's Dream Song and the U.S. premiere of Sisyphus Redux, the concerts will include composer Andrew Rindfleisch's riveting Trio for Piano, Violin and Violincello, and Alberto Ginastera's evocative Puneña No. 2 for Cello ("Hommage à Paul Sacher").

Also featured on the program is the world premiere performance of Matthew Ivic's Piano Quartet No. 2. Beyer says, "Matt is a very talented young Cleveland-area composer that we've worked with before. We commissioned and premiered a piece of his on our Spring 2010 series of concerts. Matt has his own very individual and distinctive artistic sensibility which is something that really shines through in his music."

This event is FREE and open to the public.
