The "Events" Event

Legal and Practical Advice for Arts Organizations in Planning Compliant Events

Recent events and discussions in Cleveland have highlighted the need for artists and arts organizations to become informed about legal and administrative requirements for public events. CPAC, SPACES, and the VLA have teamed up to serve that need, and artists, organization leaders, and attorneys alike are invited to attend this free, public event.

In this seminar, VLA lawyers will present for the first hour on the legal issues of event hosting, including the law governing parade and assembly permits (including First Amendment implications), regulatory and liability issues relating to alcohol sales and service, and appropriate licensing of intellectual property (especially live performances of music, dance, or theater) commonly presented at benefit events. During the second hour, local artists, representatives from arts organizations, and community leaders will share advice and experiences about the practical realities of creative events planning and compliance. After the seminar, all attendees are invited to join the presenters and panelists for light refreshments.
